Q35

Kanta has five dozen chocolates. She gives 16\frac{1}{6} of these to Aruna and 15\frac{1}{5} of the remaining chocolates to Radha. She then gives 18\frac{1}{8} of the remaining chocolates to each of her other three friends. How many chocolates does Kanta have now?

  1. (1) 15
  2. (2) 20
  3. (3) 25Correct answer
  4. (4) 10

Solution.

CBSE answer: (3)

Answer: (3) 25

  1. Five dozen =60= 60. To Aruna: 16×60=10\frac{1}{6} \times 60 = 10, left 50.
  2. To Radha: 15×50=10\frac{1}{5} \times 50 = 10, left 40.
  3. Each of three friends gets 18×40=5\frac{1}{8} \times 40 = 5, so 3×5=153 \times 5 = 15 given away.
  4. Left with Kanta: 40−15=2540 - 15 = 25.

Trap: (1) 15 is the number given to the three friends, not the number Kanta has left.
