Q86

Read the following statements carefully and choose the correct option.
Assertion (A) : A distinct centrally located spherical structure in a cell is called Nucleus.
Reason (R) : Nucleus is surrounded by a jelly like structure called cytoplasm.

  1. (1) Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).Correct answer
  2. (2) (A) is true but (R) is false.
  3. (3) (A) is false but (R) is true.
  4. (4) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).

Solution.

CBSE answer: (1)

Answer: (1) Both true, but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).

  1. (A) is true: a dense, roughly round body near the centre of a cell is the nucleus.
  2. (R) is true: the jelly-like cytoplasm lies around the nucleus, inside the cell membrane.
  3. But cytoplasm surrounding the nucleus does not explain why that structure is called the nucleus.

Trap: (4) both facts are about the nucleus, yet one does not cause the other.
