Q40

A bag containing potatoes, onions and lemons weighs 46 kg 160 g. The weight of potatoes is 17 kg 115 g and that of onions is 15 kg 325 g. The weight of empty bag is 120 g. If 30 lemons weigh 1 kg, then what is the number of lemons in the bag?

  1. (1) 396
  2. (2) 402
  3. (3) 408Correct answer
  4. (4) 414

Solution.

CBSE answer: (3)

Answer: (3) 408

  1. Work in grams. Potatoes + onions + bag =17115+15325+120=32560= 17115 + 15325 + 120 = 32560 g.
  2. Lemons: 46160−32560=1360046160 - 32560 = 13600 g =13.6= 13.6 kg.
  3. 30 lemons per kg, so 13.6×30=40813.6 \times 30 = 408 lemons.

Trap: forgetting the 120 g bag gives 13720 g and about 411.6, which fits no option.
