Assertion (A) : In environmental studies, the actions of children are not to be judged as right/wrong. Children should get a chance to express their views, report observations and express their own experiences. Such a recommendation has been made by the National Curriculum Framework 2005 and 2023.
Reason (R) : The National Curriculum Framework 2005 and 2023 recommend qualitative assessment of children.

  1. (1) Both (A) and (R) are correct and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).Correct answer
  2. (2) (A) is false, but (R) is true.
  3. (3) Both (A) and (R) are correct, but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).
  4. (4) (A) is true, but (R) is false.

Solution.

CBSE answer: (1)

Answer: (1) Both correct and R is the correct explanation of A

  1. A is true: EVS work should not be marked simply right or wrong; children should share views, observations and experiences.
  2. R is true: NCF 2005 and the 2023 school framework favour qualitative, descriptive assessment.
  3. R explains A: since assessment is qualitative, the teacher looks at children's thinking and expression instead of right/wrong marking.
