  1. Option (a) is the best available sentence: the superlative identifies one person as the brightest intellectual.
  2. In (b), (c) and (d), “one among/of” requires a plural group noun, “intellectuals”, not “intellectual”.
  3. The more idiomatic wording of (a) in edited English is “He is considered the brightest intellectual in the country”, omitting “as”.
