Q95

The masses of two planets are in the ratio of 1:71:7. The ratio between their diameters is 2:12:1. The ratio of forces which they exert on each other is

  1. (a) 1:71:7
  2. (b) 7:17:1
  3. (c) 1:11:1Correct answer
  4. (d) 2:12:1

Solution.

Answer: (c) 1:11:1

  1. The interaction forces are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction by Newton's third law.
  2. They act on different objects; different masses can therefore have different accelerations despite equal force magnitudes.
