NDA 2 2024 GAT, question 139

Topic: Geography

Q139

Which one of the following is found in appreciable amount in Laterite soil in India ?

  1. (a) Calcium
  2. (b) Phosphate
  3. (c) PotashCorrect answer
  4. (d) Nitrogen

Solution.

Answer: (c) Potash

  1. NCERT describes laterite soils as relatively rich in iron oxide and potash.
  2. It describes them as poor in nitrogen, phosphate and calcium, so potash is the only one found in appreciable amount.

Trap: In farm practice, heavily leached laterite soils are often short of potash too; the key follows the NCERT description, as in NDA (II) 2025 GAT 126.
