Q76

The distance between the capital of India (New Delhi) and the capital of Bihar (Patna) is 792 km. If an express bus covers this distance in 11 hours, the average speed of the bus in metre per second is :

  1. (1) 20 m/sCorrect answer
  2. (2) 36 m/s
  3. (3) 72 m/s
  4. (4) 15 m/s

Solution.

CBSE answer: (1)

Answer: (1) 20 m/s

  1. Average speed =792÷11=72= 792 \div 11 = 72 km/h.
  2. To change km/h to m/s, multiply by 518\frac{5}{18}: 72×518=2072 \times \frac{5}{18} = 20 m/s.
  3. Check: 792000792000 m ÷39600\div 39600 s =20= 20 m/s.

Trap: (3) 72 is the speed in km/h, not in m/s.
