Topic: Area and perimeter

Q56

The perimeter of a rectangle is 410 m and its length is 123 m. The breadth of the rectangle (in m) is :

  1. (1) 82Correct answer
  2. (2) 86
  3. (3) 88
  4. (4) 92

Solution.

CBSE answer: (1)

Answer: (1) 82

  1. Perimeter of a rectangle is twice the sum of its length and breadth: 2(l+b)2(l + b).
  2. 2(123+b)=410⇒123+b=2052(123 + b) = 410 \Rightarrow 123 + b = 205.
  3. b=205−123=82b = 205 - 123 = 82 m.
  4. Check: 2(123+82)=2×205=4102(123 + 82) = 2 \times 205 = 410 m.

Trap: halving is often forgotten: 410−2×123=164410 - 2 \times 123 = 164, then 164÷2=82164 \div 2 = 82.
