Ravi gives one-fourth of a pizza to Sonu and one-third of the remaining pizza to Priya. He then distributes the remaining pizza equally to Anu, Bobby and Cheema. What fraction of the whole pizza does Cheema get ?

(1) $\frac{1}{6}$ Correct answer
(2) $\frac{1}{12}$
(3) $\frac{1}{9}$
(4) $\frac{5}{36}$

Solution.

CBSE answer: (1)

Answer: (1) $\frac{1}{6}$

After Sonu: $1 - \frac{1}{4} = \frac{3}{4}$ left.
Priya gets $\frac{1}{3} \times \frac{3}{4} = \frac{1}{4}$ ; left $= \frac{3}{4} - \frac{1}{4} = \frac{1}{2}$ .
Cheema gets $\frac{1}{2} \div 3 = \frac{1}{6}$ of the whole pizza.

Trap: $\frac{5}{36}$ comes from taking one-third of the whole pizza instead of the remainder.
