Q66

Let p→=a→−b→\overrightarrow{p}=\overrightarrow{a}-\overrightarrow{b}, q→=a→+b→\overrightarrow{q}=\overrightarrow{a}+\overrightarrow{b}. If ∣a→∣=∣b→∣=2|\overrightarrow{a}|=|\overrightarrow{b}|=2 and a→⋅b→=2\overrightarrow{a}\cdot \overrightarrow{b}=2, then what is the value of ∣p→×q→∣|\overrightarrow{p}\times \overrightarrow{q}|?

  1. (a) 3\sqrt{3}
  2. (b) 6\sqrt{6}
  3. (c) 232\sqrt{3}
  4. (d) 434\sqrt{3}Correct answer

Solution.

Answer: (d) 434\sqrt{3}

  1. (a−b)×(a+b)=2(a×b).
  2. Also |a×b|²=|a|²|b|²−(a·b)²=16−4=12.
  3. Thus |p×q|=2√12=4√3.
