Topic: Probability

Q102

In a sample survey of a village, the probability that a farmer is in debt is 0.600.60. What is the probability that three randomly selected farmers are all in debt (assume independence of events)?

  1. (a) 0.0002160.000216
  2. (b) 0.0640.064
  3. (c) 0.2160.216Correct answer
  4. (d) 0.5120.512

Solution.

Answer: (c) 0.2160.216

  1. Independence allows multiplication: P(all three in debt)=0.6³=0.216.
  2. This is smaller than each individual probability, as required.
