Q90

Which one among the following statements regarding the Fundamental Rights of the Constitution of India is not correct ?

  1. (a) They provide for equality of opportunity in matters of public employment.
  2. (b) They guarantee freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion.
  3. (c) They prohibit discrimination on the grounds only of religion, race and caste.Correct answer
  4. (d) They are legally enforceable.

Solution.

Answer: (c) They prohibit discrimination on the grounds only of religion, race and caste.

  1. Article 15 prohibits discrimination on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex and place of birth, so (c) leaves out two grounds.
  2. (a) is Article 16, (b) is Article 25, and (d) is correct because Article 32 lets a person go to the Supreme Court to enforce these rights.

Trap: (c) is true about the grounds it names, but it gives an incomplete list as the full rule, which makes it the statement that is not correct.
